Moving email from Mac to Mac

I've tried everything I know and nothing is working. How do I move folders and emails from mail to mail.

Assuming you're using Mail, the app that came with the machine, then all your data should be kept in a folder named Mail in your Home folder's library. If you're wanting to transfer an account to a new machine then simply dragging this folder to the new machine's equivalent location should suffice, although it'll obviously then replace the data on the new machine. If you're wanting to sync accounts then tell us more about your mail setup and we might be able to help. 🙂

I'm using apple mail. I just bought a new mac book pro. I'm trying to move all my folders and sub-folder to the new mac. Yes, I am using apple mail.

Okay, well drag the folder named Mail from the old machine's Home Library to the new one's Library when Mail is closed. You may also want to copy across com.apple.mail.plist from the Preferences folder. The great thing about Macs is that you can generally copy a folder (such as Mail, iTunes, iPhoto, Documents and so on) from one machine to another and it'll all work as it used to. 🙂

If you have dot mac then you can sync using the system preferences, if not just get a trial dot mac and use the same function!!!

You can set exactly what you do and do not want to sync also!!!

I don't think .Mac will let you sync all your emails unless they're from a .Mac account. I'm usually wrong though. 😱

Copy the following files and then place them back into their locations everything will be exactly as you had it before.

~your username/library/application support/addressbook

~your username/library/mail

~your username/library/mail downloads

~your username/library/preferences/com/apple.mail.plist

You might have to enter your mail password again but that's about it.

In newer version you won't be able to see library folder, you have to unhide library folder on your new mac:

go to terminal and write the following:

chflags nohidden /Users/Your user name/Library/

Does anyone know how to read / translate the mail preferences files, so as to be able to export the mail rules and smart mailboxes to other apps?
