Universal Moving from iCloud photos to Google Photos - anyone done it?

Is it easy..? Any potential pitfalls? If I could move my photos to Google I wouldn’t have to pay for my iCloud 200gb storage tier...

Just wondering how practical a solution it is...

Haven't done it recently but Google has a photos uploader app which will make it easier but it will take time. You'd also have to make sure your iCloud photos are saved locally for it to be uploaded.

It's got better over time but will never be as integrated as iCloud photos

To get Google Photos to store your photos in full resolution (and who wouldn't want that) you'll have to buy storage if you have over 15GB total stored in the Google account, including emails, Google Docs, Google Backup & Sync, and whatever else.

100GB of extra Google Storage is $20/yr. 1TB is $100 and so on.

I have the 100GB plan and use Google Photos. I can't say if it's worse or better than iCloud.

Let's be sure to qualify this for clarity. Per Google:

• Photos are compressed to save space. If a photo is larger than 16MP, it will be resized to 16MP.
• Videos higher than 1080p will be resized to high-definition 1080p. A video with 1080p or less will look close to the original. Some information, like closed captions, might be lost.

Speaking to photos specifically, for many their full resolution photos are less than 16MP, so they could do free tier and get full resolution. Videos are obviously a different story.

Also, $100 now gets you 2TB.
