I imported a bunch of photos from Dropbox (using the 'save original' feature from the Unbound app)
Just bought Unbound for iOS for same reason but unfortunately couldn't find "Select All" option to save photos (6K+ pics).
Did you select photos one by one to save them to iOS photo library?

I have 14gb of photos and videos that I transfered to iCloud photo library using this method.

1. Download an app called rollit, photo transfer app on your iphone/ipad

2. Connect device to computer and open iTunes

3. Navigate to where you manage your apps in iTunes

4. Find rollit at the bottom in the section where you can manage files through apps

5. Drag all pictures and videos, no folders and let it sync and transfer

6. Once done open rollit app and you'll see all your pictures

7. Select all and transfer to camera roll, it might take a while. Pictures that have been transfered will disappear from rollit and appear in photos app. When I did it all pictures didn't transfer on the first go. I had to select all (the remaining pictures) and transfer again.

Everything will automatically transfer to iCloud photo library if it's already enabled.

As many others my camera roll is in wrong order. But all pictures I've taken after this method is correct. All pictures in moments are in the correct order and I can search for pictures using location etc. All info is saved. Only camera roll is wrong since rollit probably does a random transfer and not it the order the pictures are in the folder.

Hope this helps

Good trick!!

I'm asking if I should wait for Photos for Mac due to:
1. to avoid duplication in iCloud Library if I import the photos before
2. if the mac migration from iPhoto to Photos will manage also the migration of event/album/faces/rates

What do you think?

Thanks
Matteo

In your case I would wait for the Mac app. I had all my pictures in a folder in a external drive. I'm guessing when the Mac app arrives all my pictures will download again on my mac.

IF I choose to moves to iCloud a photo Library, Apple will have to further reduce their iCloud storage prices. I have 500GB of photos (and some home video) currently stored in iPhoto. For that, I'll need the 1TB storage plan, and currently it's $19.99 per month. $240/yr.

I have an Office 365 subscription that gives me unlimited space in 10TB chunks -- plus 5 MS Office licenses and access to the full iOS apps -- for less than that.

DropBox gives me 1TB for $9.99/mo.

I'm all for the iCloud Photo Library concept, but not for $240 per year. And what happens when my library exceeds 1TB?

I've been trying to migrate to iCloud Photo Library since yesterday. Before going to bed, I just selected a ton of photos to upload. When I woke up this morning it had uploaded a total of 158 photos. Some quick math tells me this is less than 50 kb/s. We'll have flying cars before I'm done uploading photos!

I used photosync to get my photos uploaded. I've had very good upload speeds myself when photos have successfully uploaded (6mbps upload connection)

I had all of my photos stored in a Photo Stream. So I...

1. Imported all of my Photo Stream photos into iPhoto.

2. From there I "selected all" and drug them to the AirDrop folder. I "dropped" them all onto my iPhone.

3. Then went into Settings > iCloud > Photos, and turned iCloud Photo Library "On". I opted to "Download and Keep Originals" as I had some issues with "optimize" on previous attempts.

4. From there all of my photos uploaded from my phone to iCloud Photo Library without a problem. :)
