Pick up a Mac 4870 and call it a day, 5xxx and 6xxx cards should work OoB too iirc
Umm... yeah, no. Price difference between Mac versions and PC versions is eye watering (for someone on my budget).
PC 4870 from around $35 shipped
Mac 4870 from around $150 shipped

If I want to upgrade, it has to be a flashed PC card, or it's just too expensive (unless I'm mind blowingly lucky).
It has an X1900XT in it (I had a PC X1900XTX to flash for the G5) and there's a gainward 7950GT in a box around here someplace that I bought in error for the G5.

Dunno where you're searching, I see $69 for HD 4870 mac edition.

Dunno where you're searching, I see $69 for HD 4870 mac edition.

I too found eBay item number 201590285248.
"ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB Dual DVI PCI Express Video Card Mac Edition"

Buy it now price: US $69.00

plus

US $29.29 International Priority Shipping

That's kinda the difference between me just being only just able to afford it, and it being too expensive for me.
And that's the best price I've seen for one anywhere on ebay (I look around several European eBay's looking for stuff too).

And the wait goes on...:(
If there's a way to screw things up I'm sure Canada Post is right on top of it.
This mornings tracking info claims at 08:42 "Attempted delivery. Notice card left indicating where item can be picked up",
which in reality means, the postman takes one look at the 50lb. box and sez, my union tells me I don't have to handle anything that large, and leaves it there for someone else to haul to the local postal sub-station for me to attend and pick up.
As of closing time to-day it still had not arrived at that sub-station.
Also this so-called "Notice card" only showed up in my mail slot at 12:20PM, a far cry from 08:42 attempted delivery.
Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
Ah, that's really annoying. Especially 'cause they are really heavy.
Got a G5 myself last year - seller was just around the corner.
Had to carry the G5 over a distance 300m and in a hurry, since it started to rain and I really felt being close to collapse when I reached my car.

They've put the price down, two times now. Currently they're now only asking US$62.10.
One more price cut, and I'm likely to buy.

Then there's this, which I'm not going to touch with someone else's barge pole!
