It's not like I was in love with iphoto, but I can't seem to do the most basic things in the new "photos" app. What am I missing ?

All I want to do is move some photos around from one album to another, and between imports. Can anyone help. Either I've lost all mac intuition, or there is no intuitive way to do this. This new app appears to simplify but it doesn't seem to enable you to do much of anything except import your stuff and make new albums.

Any help appreciated

Nevermind. I thought you were talking about the Mac Photos app.

Looks like it's a multi step operation. Select the photo you want and click "add" at the bottom. Add it to the new album. Then you delete it from the old album.

Albums in Photos.app are basically playlists. Photos does not make duplicates of photos when you put them in albums.

Just drag the photo you want out of the timeline and into the new album. If you want, delete the photo out of the old album.

Here's another trick that might work. I'm not sure because I'm not at home with my Mac. If you go to the album that has the photo, try dragging the photo with shift, control, or cmd pressed, to the intended album. One of those may be a "move", rather than a "copy".

Thank you for your response !! I was talking about the Mac photos app. And I knew it was something stupid I was missing. My sidebar had been hidden in this app since upgrading to El Capitan. It's all a lot more obvious now with the side bar- something you said made me think to go into "view". Thank you !
