Moving photos to photostream manually?

Hi guys,

I've got a few hundred (very old) photos I'd like to transfer from my iPhone to my new iPad, I was thinking Photostream is the best way of doing this, but I can't figure out a way to copy them to it? The option is greyed out.

Use the desktop app and stick them in the upload folder?

I would just do it through the computer since that would be faster to transfer a few hundred photos, photo stream would take awhile. (It took me about 10 minutes for it to transfer 10-15 photos from my iPhone to Macbook using photo stream).
