In case you didn't know, it's possible to move a purchase that was NOT originally on an installment plan TO an installment plan, simply by asking GS to do so.

I got two new iPhone 16PMs from the Apple store for veterans to save 10%. However, that store doesn't allow an option for Apple Card installment plans, and even if it did, the installment plan requires you to get a phone pre-associated with a major carrier (which I don't use).

After I received the phones (launch day), I got them set up with US Mobile, no issues.

A couple of days later, I messaged Goldman Sachs and requested the entire purchase be moved to the 0% installment plan. The agent didn't offer any resistance and did so in just a few minutes. New purchase came off the balance that will be due in October and installment plan established.

Summary:
1). Bypassed the carrier association typically required with an installment plan.

2). Got the 10% off, not available through the regular Apple Store.

My understanding is that this is a one time offer. A couple years ago I was buying a laptop for my son before he went to college and I accidentally selected full amount payment instead of installments and I did Apple Card to fix it then so I think I've already used up my one time only offer.

One negative to this GS side adjustment is that the installments will not show up in that section in the Wallet app like the rest of your installments set up correctly from the get go. You can see it on your statements but not within the app.

I was planning on updating my wife's and my iPhones now and then my two college age kids at Christmas but now I just don't think I see a good path forward for doing them without the 0% installments on the Apple Card. The replacement of having one of four carriers doesn't apply for me since I'm with Xfinity.

Just got my Sept statement.

It confirms that the two phones ARE on the plan, as of Sept 26th when I contacted GS.

The previous poster is correct, the details don't show within the wallet app itself. Not a big deal though.

On an important side note, the Apple installment plan is no longer available at all, through the Apple Card itself. You'd have to buy it with a carrier plan!!! This is a brand new change!!

So the technique I specified in the OP is no longer available. I got it done unjust in time!!!!

Details on that here:
