read this article here on moving the home folder and it does seem to have some advantages and was wondering if any1 has done this?

I have 3 drives currently set up like this

Drive 1: Boot/Applications (and home folder)
Drive 2: Data
Drive 3: Time Machine

I planned on moving the home folder to drive 2, would this be a good idea as far as performance goes? would i have to reinstall anything?

I don't see why you would want to do this as long as you are making backups of your data. All it does is complicate things for the average user.

You would be better off keeping all your data on the first drive, using SuperDuper! to make an image backup once a week to the second drive, and Time Machine backing up the first drive to the third drive.

I do this except I make that image backup every day. I have a fourth drive that is strictly a scratch drive.

I have an image copy of all my data that is no more than 24 hours old. I can get that to no more than 1 hour old by restoring using Time Machine.

Most users are better off keeping things simple by not having their "Home" directory on a separate drive.
