I want to move the Time Machine DB file from one volume ( My Book ) to another volume ( Time Machine ). These are two physical Firewire Drives, [My Book] connected to iMac Firewire port, and [Time Machine] connected to second port on [My Book].

I was told that I could not simply 'copy' the Time Machine databse file to a new location and tell TimeMachine to use that drive. Something about 'hard links' within the database file not copying over. I was told to use " Disk Utility " RESTORE functions to mover the file to the new drive.

Every time I attempt this it aborts and I get a message that say " process not allowed ".

I did this twice.

First time "Time Machine" was turned ON, I thought maybe if I turned off Time Machine that would resolve it.

Second time with Time Machine turned OFF, still got the error message.

Anyone have ideas????

Thanks

I'm not sure what options exist now, but when Super Duper! 2.5 is released (hopefully soon), it will offer this option for free.
