Hi wanted to confirm if am able to initiate Target Disk Drive Mode from my Trashcan to a 2019 MacBook Pro using a Thunberbot cable and Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter?
When I boot my iMac 2013 into Target Disk Mode, it shows a Thunderbolt icon and a FireWire icon when no other Mac is connected.
When I connect it to my Mac mini 2018 with Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter and Thunderbolt 2 cable, the FireWire icon disappears so that only the Thunderbolt icon remains, and all the partitions of my iMac 2013 disks are visible in the Finder on my Mac mini 2018.
Each drive of the iMac exists on the Mac mini as a logical unit of a single IOSCSITargetDevice served by a AppleThunderboltUTDM class which is connected to a IOThunderboltXDomainService (key "targetdm") which is connected to a IOThunderboltXDomainLink named "Macintosh" served by a Thunderbolt port adapter.
Thanks got it working. I guess my original idea was to run the Trashcan and MBP side by side and use one keyboard & trackpad over Universal Control. But I guess the Trashcan is too old. for the time being I can run the second Monitor into the MBP. just need to get a second Thunderbolt to USB-C Adapter or maybe an OWC Dock.

Thanks Joevt, since your post the Backlight in my 24" Cinema Display has died so now down to just one Display.....The Mac Drama Continues. Waiting for another Tbolt Cable to arrive so at least can access the Trashcan over Target Disk Drive.
