Is this real? Somehow I doubt a customer could be treated so egregiously. Even if it is, the guy remained remarkably collected, considering the situation. Can't say I would be so patient.

I believe it. The only way I was able to close my AOL account was to cancel the credit card that was paying for it. It was amazing how quickly that account stopped working...

I believe it's real. I remember cancelling an AOL account many years ago... it took forever and I remember being very angry by the end of the ordeal. That single experience put me off of AOL forever... they will never get me back as a customer.

I remember closing my AOL account years ago. I would of rather had my teeth pulled. They were just awful.

Now that I've had a chance to listen to it... wow!

I'd heard some horror stories about AOL (and have had great "fun" with their proprietary dialler in the past) but I simply couldn't believe what I was hearing!

I couldn't get to the file, but I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. I opened an account for the trial (needed dial-up access for about 4 weeks). When I tried to cancel it, I remember screaming at the guy like crazy, being transfered over and over, etc... it was a VERY frustrating experience. At the end of the ordeal, I couldn't cancel the account, so I called my bank and told them to decline any charges from them. That did the trick.

ahahahahhahahahah
my fav part:

AOL Rep: "I don't know what anybodys done to you..."
You: "You're annoying the SH*T out of me.. thats what your doing..."

I have to cancel an AOL account in a few weeks.. God help them if they give me this guy to "help" me out.

What a smarmy jerk. I've worked in a customer service call center before, and find it troubling that he'd argue with the customer like that. Who cares if he's been using his service or not? Just close the damn account and move on.

Especially considering the caller was the owner of the account and on the credit card.

With this call in mind, it is easy to see how AOL gets a bad rap.

Well, I cancelled an AOL account just a couple of months ago and I can tell you that I was on the phone for almost an hour and a half. It was ridiculous. I had to talk to three different people to cancel it.

Looks like we've slashdotted the webpage - "The bandwidth limit for this site has been exceeded"

But Nermal's trick works.
