MP3s as SMS tones?

Hi does anyone know how to get MP3s as an SMS tone.

I can change it into a ringtone but dont seem to be able to get it as a message tone.

Would be great.

As far as I know you can only do that with a jailbroken phone.

+1 To the OP: If it was possible, it would have to be a really short clip unless you want a really long alert sound for every text you get.

I have on that is about 8 secs. Thats long enough without going overboard.

Maybe this will be fixed with an update???

there is a way of doing it (unofficially you need to jailbreak the phone then ssh into it convert the mp3 to .aac then rename it to have a .caf file extension put the file manually onto the iphone using ftp..... its a lot of messing for little gain.

Thanks for that. I dont have a jailbroken phone so i may just have to wait and put up with the horn as my message tone.
