I had bought the 2016 13-inch Touchbar and used to use it as my primary computer for two years. In mid 2018 I found a great deal on a 15-inch 2017 model and have been using that ever since. I passed the 13-inch to my daughter for her school work that she continues to use.

This week, I sold the 15-inch and ordered the 16 which is to be delivered later this week. Becasue I was without a Mac laptop, I used my daughter's 13-inch for a few minutes and realized how lovely it is and am now thinking about cancelling that 16-inch monster. But then I got thinking that why not the Air which will be even lighter than the Pro and possibly usable for my workload which is mostly web and dcouments with some FCPX. I think any modern Mac with 16GB should be sufficient for my needs.

Thinking or ordering the Air with 16GB and then deciding if I should keep the Air or the MBP 16.

I think you should order the air:

First, the fact that you are asking this question suggests that the air is likely sufficient.
Second, your use case suggests that that the air is sufficient
Third, you value light weight, and you simply canot beat the air for a lightweight computer In my opinion.

Cancel the 16” before they ship it and save yourself some trouble.

impossible to recommend anything but the 16" now that we know the death knell for the butterfly has been sounded.

Some FCP X -- I think the smaller computer isn't the right choice. That said, I considered the 16" more of a portable/luggable rather than a laptop. How do you feel about an iPad with keyboard for the lightweight stuff?

I have the iPad Pro with keyboard and can get most things done on that but just prefer the Mac and it’s usability aspect
