MR Get-together #3: The Texas Southern BBQ

Inspired by BV (and nbs2), I thought I'd pitch a meeting for Texan/Southern MR members - there must be a few of us.

Depending on responses and the relative locations of everyone, we can pick a meeting spot and town, as well as a date.

I would consider most of Texas, or possibly New Orleans - as I want to support the town - and we might draw people from neighboring states to the East.

In any case, we'll see. BTW, I live in Austin.

Although we may not end up as fancy as the London get-together, we can have much better food - some nice BBQ and good southern cooking - and get nice tans in the summer heat.

Sounds like a plan. Although it is something like 400 miles between SF and LA. My backyard is pretty close to right in the middle though....

Another Austinite here . I'd love to hang out, but my schedule isn't too flexible, except on the weekends so it would have to be on a weekend . Oh, and I don't have a car, so it would have to be near a bus line, downtown, or in campus area .

There's a Norwegian and a smattering of Kiwis, Scots, Welsh and Irish, not to mention a Mancunian and a West Country girl, coming to our do. No stereotyping necessary, desirable or indeed possible.

Have you suffered a head-injury and/or possibly taken too many psychotropic drugs?

Seriously, I could probably deal with Houston - final location will depend on some kind of consensus from willing participants (of which we need more of).

Assuming it is not in Austin, I'd be happy to take some fellow Austinites in my car.

Houston - 1 (a very enthusiatic one, possibly with multiple personalities - so let's say 2)
Dallas/Ft. Worth - 1
New Orleans - 1 (bonus pts for invocation of rock-star lifestyle)

Houston would be fun because I'm in Houston and the only way I could go is if it's here.
That's why Houston is fun. Ignore the pollution and bad drivers. Focus on the BBQ. THELMA'S! Demitris! Goode Company!

I also think peterparker would be good with it.. he's a fellow Houstonian.

I wouldn't be opposed to a drive somewhere. Austin, Houston, whatever. The sig other and I were planning another trip to Houston some time in the near future. Not sure of a date yet.

BTW, I'm in Denton. That's the DFW area.

Now that I think about it, put me down for Houston.

Ooo, that place is neat! My dad and I spent $90 there! (well... I spent my dad's money, he just handed me the credit card.)

We have TWO Apple stores in the Houston Area, SOON TO BE THREE!
come on, that's great impetus.
But it's really only one apple store.
BECAUSE THE WOODLANDS IS NOT HOUSTON. The Woodlands is like.. Dallas Junior. Dallas is like Houston Junior (we should have the Federal Reserve District! out, so the Woodlands is Houston Junior Junior.
This further explains the woodlands... for the Woodlands grand opening. It's not Houston.

Hmm...I have an ex-gf from the woodlands. I didn't check your link, but I have always thought it was some upscale, souless suburb - where everything is clean and austerely beautific - yet boring as hell. Least that is what I was lead to believe.

I have another ex from Cyprus, which I guess is slightly too far out to be considered a Houston suburb.

If you want to have this get-together in Houston - sell it to me. I am mobile, but Austin is really cool and Dallas/Ft Worth have kick-ass museums and such. What has Houston got that would be perfect for our get-together?

BTW, if we decide on an place that is not Austin - those Austinites w/o transportation can ride with me (at least as many as will fit in a sedan).
