If you want to have this get-together in Houston - sell it to me. I am mobile, but Austin is really cool and Dallas/Ft Worth have kick-ass museums and such. What has Houston got that would be perfect for our get-together?

Ah, Houston is beaten by both of them, even on a rainy day.

Have fun at the BBQ! Take pics. :D

*grumble* I hate houston so much!

Brixton has a large and thriving Gay community it's one of the joys of living here.:)

My old landlord drove into Brixton with an Audi TT. He said, "Meh, it's only one time, and I'm only there for like 30 minutes." It got stolen. And after this horrific shock, someone walked up to him and asked if he wanted to buy any weed. :p

"This has been recorded by historians as the greatest mistake anyone has ever made."

Texas is a fur piece for travel and it would depend on date(s), but it sounds like a good idea.

That would be fine. As long as you promise not to pelt me with soccer balls.

Dumb outsiders flashing their wealth are going to get ripped off every time, see hordes of white studenty types attending the Academy who park their cars in my street and come back to find the local kids have redecorated them in a bright and lively fashion.:) PS the dope sellers on the street are a great community service and do not bother anyone including the police.

Add another to the DFW crowd.

Unfortunately I have a very finicky schedule due to work (weekdays, 9-10 hours on average), Grad School (Tuesday and Friday nights), and a 19 month old (the rest of my time).

I can't be definite but if it's in the DFW area, on a Thursday night or weekend I should be able to at least make an appearance...

DFW also has the benefit of 4 Apple stores in the area, Highland Park, Dallas, Plano, and Southlake.

Another Austinite here :). I'd love to hang out, but my schedule isn't too flexible, except on the weekends so it would have to be on a weekend :). Oh, and I don't have a car, so it would have to be near a bus line, downtown, or in campus area ;).

I thought you lived in NYC? Where did I get that from?

EDIT: I might do New Orleans.

It would be really cool if all the MR gatherings could be on the same weekend!!!

Well, I think we could get WPod in for Dallas, and Peterparker comes in often, maybe one in Dallas/FW, Houston and Austin at same time, connected via iChat? Geeky, yes, but very cool.

..starts looking for a BBQ joint with Wifi...

I used to :). I was in NYC for a semester of college in a Design & Technology program and I decided I didn't want to go into design or technology. So I moved home for the spring semester, in Austin, to try and find some direction. I've decided to go to business school, but in the meantime, while I work on applications I am working and going to school in Austin.

I live in Houston (Kingwood, really), and I hope it's in Austin.

Austin is a much more enjoyable place to visit, and it means I get to take a road trip. I'm heading there in September for the FlashForward Conference and ACL.

I'm in if I can work it out.

Ooo.. that'd be neat. If this does go down, I know pretty much every wifi-connected restaurant in the SW Houston area. Someone bring a MBP, MacBook, or iSight for me to just throw on my PB and we're good.

I can see it now... two people (myself and the only other person unfortunate enough to get stuck in houston) crowded around a computer screen, being nerdy. :D

Dallas appears to be the (tentative) frontrunner.

Perhaps we could get a vote (or set up a poll), and then work on potential date(s)?

I'll be visiting Tennessee in August. Maybe I'll be able to smell your BBQ and hear your noisy party from there, but I doubt it.

what's 1000 miles between friends?

could be less even...

ok, Peterparker? would you come in...and WPod, you in?? Who else could come to Dallas/Fort Worth..?

I think that would make at least 5 or 6 of us, and I could bring a couple of people that are registered here but don't get on that much...and we could add the others via wifi. (Sooooo dorky, I know.)

Depending on the day/location I can probably get an hour or two free to try and make it. The real fun will be explaining it to the wife.

Anything ever happen with the Texas MR get-together?

Has it happened already? Did I miss it? Did it flop in mid plan?

Man, even people I haven't met don't think I'm cool...oh, wait, that's right, I'm an engineer...I was never cool :D

Heh, I may be jumping on the bandwagon late here, but Austin is my vote.

There's Salt-Lick BBQ, and then we could head down to 6th street for the evening... Live music, bars, everything you could possibly want.
