How do I fix this? Every document that I open are always zoomed in this high and I have to manually change each time.

What versions of Word and macOS?

I'm not sure how to do it but getting the Word preferences to reset might do the trick. The method may depend on the version you're running.

The zoom level doesn’t appear to be stored in ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word/Data/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Word.plist
but deleting the file might make Word revert to its normal behavior, remembering the last zoom level used.

Thanks that fixed it. Now it's going to 100% when I want everything at 150%. How do I fix?

Open one document, set zoom to 150%, quit Word, all documents should now open with 150% zoom. At least that is the expected behaviour. :)

That does not happen. MS adds new features and old bugs return it seems with all their software.

That does not happen.
Try to switch between Page Width and One Page.
One Page seems to remember the zoom level.
