Hi,

My Pismo has just gone through it's second HDD in a year or so, and I'd like to put an SSD in it. I'm aware you can get mSATA->IDE adapters, and mSATA SSDs aren't too pricey these days. Anyone know if I can put a 128 GB in it (I've had an 80 GB HDD in there), and any recommendations for adapters?

I tried searching, but couldn't find any recommendations for adapters - it does seem possible, though.
Thanks!

My own Pismo has a 64GB mSATA SSD and it has revolutionised the speed by comparison with the old 10GB spinner.
I understand that 128GB is fine, but no higher with a Pismo.

The adapter that I bought came from https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universa...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 and at the time was also the cheapest I could find in the UK. Not the quickest to send out, but I have returned to the same seller for mSATA enclosures for my G4 PowerBooks, and they all work perfectly.

It's working batteries that are extremely difficult to come by, and I was lucky enough to get a bargain Lombard with a nearly new battery, and which I switched to the Pismo. I rather fancy a 2nd battery to go in the other slot and increase my play time a lot more.

Cheers :)

Hugh

Since the Pismo is one of the Macs that max at 128GB drives, but it also has a full IDE bus just for the internal connector, so I use an IDE44 to dual CF adapter like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036DDXUM/ with 2 CF to microSD adapters like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07919JWZG/ with 2 128GB endurance microSD cards like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B984HJ5/ so that I can not only have 256GB total internally, but also have 2 distinct drives to keep MacOS 9 and MacOS 10.5 not just on separate partitions, but separate drives.

Thanks both for the input! I'm going to go for an mSATA adapter as I think it'll work out less. Interesting on the Dual CF adapter though, I used to boot really old (1400, 190) powerbooks from CF many years ago.

Yes, I've been looking for a working battery for a while. They were available from a few sources a few years ago, but now my battery has finally died (well, it lasts a few minutes, so not totally dead), there doesn't seem to be anywhere in the UK that sells them, and the US remailer I use won't ship them unless they are in equipment.

Just picked up a 64 GB Samsung mSATA SSD for it. I wonder if the drive or adapter will arrive first...

How fast was that(!) - cloned the 15 GB of data onto it, reinstalled and booted all in under ten minutes. Machine currently seems insanely fast!

The Pismo responds really well with an SSD and it’s a cinch to install. Impressive for a nearly 20 year old Mac portable!
