The policy change includes Windows Server -- 2008 R2, 2012 and 2012 R2. Monthly rollups begin in October.
.....
From October 2016 onwards, Windows will release a single Monthly Rollup that addresses both security issues and reliability issues in a single update. The Monthly Rollup will be published to Windows Update (WU), WSUS, SCCM, and the Microsoft Update Catalog.
.....
Also from October 2016 onwards, Windows will release a single Security-only update. This update collects all of the security patches for that month into a single update. Unlike the Monthly Rollup, the Security-only update will only include new security patches that are released for that month.

So they just pack up everything and throw it out altogether.
Hmm. Anyway, for me it is fine.
I am still waiting Windows Server 2016.

2012 R2. Monthly rollups begin in October.
I can't help but think this would make life a lot easier. I'm getting new Vms built for my application at work, and they're all going to be Win 2012 R2. We're not ready for 2016, and the application we're upgrading, hasn't certified (AFAIK) win 2016 yet

From the narrow POV of efficiency, it's much more defensible than mandatory updates. I prefer to pick and choose and to have the ability to uninstall an individual kb that proves to be incompatible or troublesome. MSFT didn't seek my advice. : -)

While I manage my own servers, we have a team that handles all of the patching. I have no say in the matter and once a month they patch the servers.
