Adium recently added Bonjour service, although I have not used it. You can also get MSN contacts on iChat via Jabber, although that takes some doing....

Yeh, I have that set up already, but i'm finding it a bit flakey... I'll have a look at Adium though. :)

Adium 0.82 seems to have some strange new bugs, but overall I think it's very nice. I tried 0.83 betas for a while, and the bugs I had were mostly on the "known problem" list and had been fixed. In particular, I have weird problems with 0.82 where setting status to available or coming out of sleep will sometimes only log into one service instead of all of them (I use it for AIM/MSN/Y!). Also, a member, mbhockey, has made a Brushed Metal version of Adium... if that moves you. :) It doesn't have brushed metal everywhere yet, but it has a nice look, to me at least. :)

Adium works pretty well. About the MSN on iChat, i don't think it works, i tried it once and i got all my contacts in and after a while i got disconnected and i don't seem to be able to get online again...

How do you get MSN contacts on iChat using Jabber? is Jabber some chatting software? :)

i personally wouldn't recomend it, it's a pain...but if u really wanna do it, just do it...

So I just installed it and I cant understand what the problem is. It downloaded quick, installed without a hitch (ok it didnt detect that I had v4.1 installed, but then i just deleted that), automatically found my log in details from my keychain.

connected straight away - havent been booted off. display pics work wonderfully.. i'm happy enough with this update (at least someone is).

Wait now... getting MSN5 to work is a breeze. Getting MSN contacts via a Jabber gateway in iChat is the thing that's a pain.

Hehe...it's hard to connect ( i barely get to connect it after it disconnects after the first time)...its a pain if u have lots of contacts...

Really? How many is lots? I recently pruned my list, but I used to have about 50 MSN contacts, and I have maybe 35 now.... So yeah, I guess that might be an explanation. Strange, considering the whole MSN corporate thing. You'd think you would frequently need large buddy lists in a corporate setting.

Hope file xfer speeds are higher up vs Adium since it sits between 0Kb and 5Kb/sec. Overall MSN 5 royally sucks compared to the Windows counterparts (no surprise there), same s*it different skin, I'm almost convinced that all MS did was reskin 4.01, add that corporate tab and thats it.. WHAT EXACTLY HAS MS DONE SINCE 4.0 RELEASE?!?!?!?!

Well I can't receive custom emotions. I just see the persons text.

Are you guys sure you can receive other peoples custom ones??

LOL... I'm so confused what we're talking about anymore. People need to start prefacing complaints with MSN5 or iChat/Jabber in their posts in this thread. :D

So iChat/Jabber will fail to persist in connection if you have many contacts that are being accessed via the gateway?

Yeah when i firstly done everything, i launch iChat and set everything, then this "authentication" thing for the contacts start popping up for each and every single contact in my msn list...then when i finally finished clicking the window, like finished clearing all the pop ups to authenticate each contact, then i set my status to online, it works, after half and hour or so, all my contacts just disappear...and i see my status is online...but in the iChat window, nothing is there...next time i tried restarting my iBook and try to connect, same thing, no contacts but my status is online...wierd thing is i checked with my windows machine, i'm online, but i don't see my contacts on my Mac...

Congrats to micro$oft

All this bickering about msn is missing the point!

I for one am really glad that they've chosen not to waste time on new features and have concentrated on what really matters and given us the number one feature request from mac users....the 'brushed metal' look.

I honestly don't know how I coped without it. Hey, who needs all that Windows parity of features stuff when you can have such a radical feature as brushed metal. All those XP and 2000 users will be soooo jealous of us!

I say Microsoft should be congratulated.
