I think its a buggy mess. Its terrible, no webcam support.

I think Webcam chats and voice chats thorough a IM application is important nower days and i think its crazy they still have not added that

Microsoft behind the times once again 'cough Vista'

Or is it just they can't be bothered to upgrade there software for Mac

Rant over

MS cant be bothered to keep messenger up to date on Mac because its not a priority. there is aMSN which uses the MSN network and has video. but i never have really tried it. you could try and get the contacts you want to use video chat with over on skype as well... ive found that they offer the easiest and most reliable video chats out there. at least imo.

although there was a rumor of a messenger update not too long ago...

I've been using that messenger for years and it's stable fast and does it's just fine. I recently switched to Adium just because i have too many IMs.. And plugins of course ;)

The Messenger update isn't a rumour. We are releasing a beta of Messenger later this year that will bring video chat to personal users. (Corporate users who connect to their company's Office Communicator Server with Messenger:Mac v7 already have video chat.) For more details, check out the following blog post from a member of our Messenger team: An update on Messenger for Mac. When the public beta goes live, details about how to get it will be posted there.

And if you're at Macworld, stop by the Office:Mac booth this week. We're giving demos of our pre-beta code right now.

Regards,
Nadyne.

Could you at the same time add the Offline Msgs feature to the new version of Microsoft Messenger? That would be great...

That is the feature I miss the most!!
I hate logging on msn at work, and getting 20+ offline messages.
Some people, who don't know I use a mac get frustrated when I never reply to offline messages. Had to explain it to quite a few people...who then turn around and just start bashing Apple.

Anyway.... Video + Voice chat and Offline messages... GO!

PS. *nudge* wouldn't be such a bad idea either. ;)

Yes, offline messaging is also needed. That must be a trivial thing to support. However, rivaling companies like Apple and MS will usually only provide the best experience of a program on their own platform. It will always be like that...

Bingo. Use Adium or rout your MSN contacts into iChat.

You can use MSN thru jabber/google talk in iChat. It works fine as long as the jabber server is working. It would be great for Apple to integrate more services into iChat.

You can also use Yahoo's client to talk to your MSN buddies, and it handles webcams fine. Adium can't say that.

Months ago Microsoft told us they were going to update MSN for the Mac so that it would support videoconferencing. We're still waiting. Don't know why they even bother making this for the Mac....

yeah, but its so bloody difficult! I've tried so many times, going through the steps, but i have never been successful in getting it to work!!!:(

Ive switched to adium now and its much better, plus it works with facebook chat now.

So.. the new WLM version is out, what about the mac version or, at least, the beta?

I'm really impatient, but i have to agree, when is the version coming out? its been more than a month after the announcement?
