People on the other end say I sound muffled. When I remove my phone from the case all is well. So clearly the case must be blocking some hole on the phone. But for the life of me I can't find it. The case has a cut out for everything. My wife has a different case but the same problem.
Why would this happen if no holes are being obstructed?

Clearly the case you are using is the culprit. Something is obstructing the microphone or prohibiting the clarity of the phone calls.

I would invest in a different case.

I would think so as well. Except it's not blocking anything. My wife has an entirely different case and same issue. If the case was blocking something it would be obvious but it's not. Another case may very well cause the same issue. Won't know until I figure out exactly what is being blocked. Then I can better search for a new case.

Where is the microphone located exactly?

Left speaker grill. And I have no idea what iPhone your using.

iphone 7 plus. And the speaker grill is not blocked in the slightest.

There are thee microphones on the iPhone 7 Plus. Two on the bottom (on either side of the Lightning connector), and one directly next to the Camera.

Ah, that explains it. I am using a wallet case so when the cover is flipped around it blocks the one by the camera. I did turn off noise cancelling so I just need to test.

Oddly that didn't happen on my 6s plus and I also had a wallet case. Maybe there wasn't a noise cancelling mic by the camera?
