Multi-monitor question

i have two monitors and it works fine, but i have a question, i want to watch a movie on one screen and have it be full screen with out blacking out the primary monitor is that do able?

It works when I go full screen in quicktime. I have the movie on my external and I can work in the laptop screen

weird, i try to go full screen on my secondary screen (attached to a mac pro if it helps) but my primary goes all black rather annoying
