MultiAlarm - aka iBook Alarm

After the beta release of iAlertU, it got some people thinking about making their own version that would be made for free and work on the ibook/powerbooks, well after multiple releases and multiple failures im proud to release a version which hopefully will be free of bugs, but we all know thats never going to happen.

Description:
Have you ever left your ibook on your desk and walked away and turn around to see someone taking you ibook and using it, well this application will annoy those that do and alert you

When activated simply move the ibook away from the axis it was when it was activated, your ibook will now sound a alarm and flash your screen (Must enable in universal access)

Theres also a video of the alarm in action with salling clicker -- Video

What i need from the apple community is for people to test it and post their responses here or on the site, if you find a bug or it doesnt work for you please tell me

If you do run into trouble please try to be as descriptive as possible, also try to run the below command and give me the results.

Code:
/usr/sbin/system_profiler SPHardwareDataType

If anyone would like to make some icons for MultiAlert it would be great

reminds me of ialertu... except for other systems.

except.......... it's not working on my powerbook. :(

billy, thanks for the reply but i need more infomation, things like:

do you have growl installed
what machine is it, powerbook hi-res?
etc

also if you ran those cmds i gave you in the orignal post i would be able to see why it wouldnt work

Not working on Rev. D 15" PB. Activates but no alarm sound when I move the machine. I have Growl installed and running. Not sure about SMS.

It worked on my high-res 15" with Growl.

If possible, it'd be nice if it lowered the volume back to wherever it was after the alarm stops ;) it caught me by surprise there.

(I like the Chuck Norris messages too  )

reality

Its good to hear its working now with the powerbooks, i might have to make it 2 versions until someone gets me the solution on how to detect which machine its runnin on

im planning on making it have a menu to enable and disable, this will allow me to add many features, if anyone is good and the interface builder and applescript please tell me

yeh sorry to say it, but your powerbook doesnt have SMS on there, but on my todo list evetnually is to add a alarm to your keyboard and mouse, etc

Yes, it does have the Sudden Motion Sensor (I didn't know what SMS was until I looked it up, but I used to have an app that received input from that sensor to show you how you were tilting the 'book.

I'm curious as to whether or not the sensor is working anymore though.

ok well normally that says if the SMS is activated :S

umm did you try both versions?

Yes. And I re-downloaded AMSVisualizer.app and it did not respond to the sensor this time. Appears to be stuck or just not working properly... Any ideas on that problem???

By the way, I tried the following and it appears that the SMS should be active (hence the "1" beside sms)...

Mac:~ Gary$ pmset -g
Active Profiles:
Battery Power -1*
AC Power -1
Currently in use:
sms 1
acwake 0
sleep 90
autorestart 0
ring 0
halfdim 1
reduce 0
disksleep 10
displaysleep 90
lidwake 1
lessbright 1
dps 1

thanks for that data and the cmd it may help me later, umm i would suggest maybe a full restart so like turn it off completly and try turning it on again (i suggest this cuz i heard it can turn it back on)

No. My SMS is acting up - or should I say not acting at all. Just created a thread to try and find some help as to why, but I can only assume that if the sensor was working, your software would have worked just fine on my machine.

Yeah, I did. That doesn't work either for some reason. I'm going to be pissed if the sensor is broken!

Well after alot of help from Shaun, i have been able to add a interface and add arm and disarm buttons, also from the help of kel on applescript.net i have been able to code a password system.

Now this version is very buggy, but if you find a fault please tell me

Current Bugs:
When alarm is set off, it is near impossible to use interface — fix : right click on dock icon and quit application
Volume is not being set correctly

Remove the dock icon and move up into menu bar — Now put off until further notice

Add detection of what system it is currently running on
Prefrence File
