With the release of macOS Mojave today, third-party Mac app developers are releasing updates to take advantage of features like Dark Mode and other new Mojave additions.

Dark Mode options in third-party apps will let them blend right in to Mojave's new Dark Mode, which is a systemwide dark theme that can be used in lieu of the traditional light mode theme. We've rounded up a list of prominent apps that are embracing macOS Mojave's new features.

1Password - Popular password management app 1Password is introducing support for Dark Mode with a new darker theme that blends right into the macOS Mojave operating system.

1Password's new update also includes a Safari App Extension to make it easier to input 1Password info into Safari webpages, it features a hardened runtime to make it so other processes on your computer can't access it, and it's been notarized with the new notary service in macOS Mojave that Apple introduced to make apps more secure.

Banktivity - Personal finance management app Banktivity, priced at $70 for new customers and $34.99 for those upgrading, is getting an update that adds support for macOS Mojave's Dark Mode. Version 7 of the app also includes expanded search features, summary view customization options, lot selection, improved envelope budgeting, calendar support, and more.

Things 3 - Popular todo app Things 3 for Mac is gaining Dark Mode support for macOS Mojave, and it will automatically change between light and dark based on a user's system setting in the Mojave operating system, but there are custom controls as well. The new dark theme is also available for Things customers running older versions of macOS.

OmniFocus 3 - Task management app OmniFocus, priced at $39.99 or $79.99 for the Pro version, is getting a major update today, which introduces version 3. The updated app has a redesigned, modernized interface that will feel familiar but fresh to OmniFocus 2 users. It includes tags for better organization, a forecast view to see tasks and calendar events in order, and enhanced repeating tasks. OmniFocus implemented a dark mode a few years back and it works great with macOS Mojave.

Agenda - Note taking app Agenda has added a new dark theme for macOS Mojave, and it's been designed to activate when you have your Mac set to Mojave's Dark Mode. The updated Agenda app has been designed to use the look and feel of the Mojave Dark Mode interface while retaining the clean, modern style of the Agenda app. The new darker theme is also available in Agenda for older versions of macOS.

Transmit - Panic's Transmit 5 app for file transfers has been updated with a new dark theme that matches the Dark Mode in macOS Mojave.

🏴 Yes! Transmit 5.2 now supports DARK MODE for macOS Mojave. And, I'll be honest, it looks pretty danged nice. It's a free update now available for direct customers -- just auto-update and enjoy! https://t.co/ladeSM399l pic.twitter.com/D7Dx6mys1c - Panic Inc (@panic) September 24, 2018

Fantastical for Mac - Popular calendar app Fantastical for Mac has been updated with support for macOS Mojave's Dark Mode. There's no new look to the app, but the built-in dark theme is activated whenever Dark Mode is turned on in Mojave.

Funny thing... My Mojave Beta wouldn't update to the release version. Build number was substantially increased but it just told me no updates available. Then I took it out of the beta program and it still wouldn't update.

I booted into High Sierra and there it was, so I updated from there and restored my backup disk image of High Sierra to it's new SSD home. Mojave now residing on my NVMe main boot drive.

You need to download Mojave GM through the app store if you're on a Mojave beta. It won't show up in Software update utility.

Sketch 52 updated. Currently in open beta.

Dark mode needs a green font option. I have Terminal and Thunderbird setup to display in black background with green font. Gives you a retro feel for the old green monochrome days.

I even had a default Apple II era font setup in some programs. I should set that up again.

I do wonder why an OS dark mode took so long? It is so much easier on the eyes.

As a musician who uses Logic and a bunch of 3rd party music Apps, I have to wait to get all these cool features. Updating to a new MacOS routinely breaks 3rd party app integration in Logic. And it ends up costing $$ to upgrade when they finally catch up. So sadly, gonna have to wait awhile for the dust to settle before I can bite on this release. For once I actually think this OS is actually worth it too. Ah well....1st world problems. ;)

Aperture (which I still use!) and Final Cut Pro X also has support for dark mode...

Seriously? That's the single best news - fact that Aperture still works and even got Dark mode.... I don't know any better DAM than Aperture (and I tried a few), plus it still works just fine with my D3X and D3S :)

Just downloaded Mojave on my 2017 MBP and loving the dark messenger and other Mac apps. Will download on my 2013 MBP later. Any performance gains or sluggishness on my 2013 expected?

So when will my favorite Website macrumors.com feature a dark CSS? :)
The real question is, how do websites work with dark mode? Is it even possible for a website to detect dark mode with Safari, Chrome and Firefox (and Edge, I suppose...)?

There's a pretty active discussion on the css wg github about implementing a media query to detect system ui style preferences.

Safari supports it in a nightly currently, so within the year we'll probably see wide release of it.
[doublepost=1537821125][/doublepost]The biggest app that needs dark mode is Chrome. My bet is 2020? Maybe 2021

Think how far Apple would be behind if you couldn't change the look of the UI in Windows 3.1.

Too funny.

And IMHO these dark mode examples are too extreme. Either we've been subjected to blazing white backgrounds with light grey font in iOS, and now super black backgrounds with no easily discernible zones between "regions," and more light grey font.

What happened to "smart" UIx that seemed easy to read and instantly discernible.

That's good news. Now all we need is updated Macs that support dark mode...

Looking forward to the upcoming Mac hardware, Apple!

..and previous Mac 's that run Sierra.

Dark mode looks cool

It's something that can rolled back into previous OS. because the Notification center had dark mode as well in El-Capitan, but then was missed in Sierra and HS.

Does anyone know how, to make a Memoji, so that in Mojave -> iMessages, the background is black instead of white? My brother has the new Max, I have X, my Memoji on my MacBook Pro with Mojave has a white background, his a dark mode background? hmm stumped and NO SITE has info for this... thanks!!
[doublepost=1537824592][/doublepost]REPLY to SELF:

I guess the stickers are alpha/transparency and videos are white :( bummer

I'd like dark mode more if it had an "ignore" list of some sort. I don't want all of my apps to be dark. For example, Finder windows in column mode and TexEdit documents are hard for me to read in dark mode - it is much easier to read black text on a white background if you wear reading glasses. But when everything is dark, then it becomes a pain.
