Hi,

I'm having quite a lot problems with my old Macbook Pro.

Now all i want to do is do a full format for it...

Macbook Model: Macbook Pro 2013
OS: High Sierra 10.13.6

Problem 1: Internal Keyboard problem.

q , w, e, r, t, y, u, i, o & esc cannot be used. Rest works fine.

I'm still able to use an external USB keyboard.

edit:
typing on build in keyboard
q & i key increase the volume
w & i key types `
e & i key types §
r & i key types [
t & i key types ]
y &i key types =
(Edit 2: stopped working after update to Mojave and PRAM reset)

Problem 2: Trackpad.

Touch to click works fine but am unable to press down to click.

Problem 4: kernel_task running extremely crazy slowing my computer to extremely crazy speed

Problem 5: Unable to reset NVRAM/PRAM

As my keyboard letter 'r' don't work i'm unable to reset the NV/PRAM

used a external keyboard but still unable to reset NV/PRAM

Problem 6: Unable to enter recovery mode

Holding cmd+r on startup does nothing.

Checked diskutil list and Recovery Partition exists.

Tried making a bootable drive, it does not appear in Start Up Disk preference.

Unable to go into Start Up Manager holding option on start-up.

Extra information. I do have bootcamp on this computer before and never use if for a long long time. only to find out it disappear from start up disk preference. As i have no use for it i removed as my end result was to clean out the mac.

Help will be great.

You should be able to use your USB keyboard for the boot keys.
Is it a windows keyboard (with a Windows key next to the alt key?)
If it is a windows keyboard, remember that to use that during boot, you have to swap the Windows and Alt keys. So, the Alt key is the one to use for Command, not the Windows key (!)

Your problem with the trackpad might be caused by a swelling battery. You can remove the bottom cover to check for that.

I did use the alt key instead of windows key. But it still boot straight to the login page after first chime.

Checked battery. Not battery problem. Battery battery not swelling at all.

Did you try the alt, then try the Windows key?
(If you have enabled File Vault, then you would expect to get a login screen, which unlocks the boot volume.)

It's also possible that the internal keyboard is interfering with everything else.
You could try disconnecting the internal keyboard connector.
Or, one other way to move forward would be to replace the internal keyboard.
Is there any chance that you have spilled liquid on the keyboard, resulting in damage to the keyboard, and perhaps causing your other issues?

Be sure to also try an NVRAM reset from the external keyboard.
If that still doesn't work, try an SMC reset first, THEN try the NVRAM reset again.

Just managed to reset the PRAM with my external keyboard.

What I did was update to Mojave(reinstalling High Sierra did not work).. it took over 3 days to update... Laptop just turned on and managed to do a PRAM reset.

There was something going very wrong. I don’t know what.

Still running on extremely high kernal_task, login and shut down extremely Long. And many more still having problem... hopefully I can do a full reformat... praying it will work fine after...

Managed to format my laptop using internet Recovery. Now it’s running on Mountain Lion.
But problem still not solve.... :(

System CPU still running high as ever! 90%.

Unplugged battery, fan, trackpad and keyboard. Problem still not solve...

It’s probably other hardware problem a....

I’ve tried almost everything already.... Anyone have anymore suggestions???

In your Activity Monitor, what other processes are showing high CPU? Be sure to also check in the Memory tab...
What are the top 5, sorted by "% CPU", then by "CPU Time"?
