Hi everyone, just after some advice

the good lady of the house might be getting a macbook (pro or air) for a new job from work.
shr currently uses a windows laptop, extended to two screens via a docking station.
is it possible to do the same thing on a MacBook?
ie a usbc dock that connects to the MacBook to extend to the screens?
one screen is dvi the other is serial, all connected to the dock and that connects to usbc port in the windows laptop.

if there is such a thing (that doesn’t break the bank) any pointers would be appreciated.
I’ve tried a quick search on Amazon but my eye sight is pretty rubbish just now having had major eye surgery in both eyes.

thsnk you in advance

Dave

Assuming she is getting fairly new MBs, both are able to use 2 external screens.

You may be able to plug into the SAME docking station by pulling a cord(s) linking PC to it and connecting Mac to it in the same way. There may be as little as NOTHING to buy if the cord(s) that plug into the PC can plug into the new MB.

it would be replacing the windows unit completely so just using the macbook
ill try mine, its got the M2 chip ill see if it lets me do anything

If it's a straight M2 chip, it won't work. M2 supports just one external display.

The answer is going to depend on EXACTLY which Mac she gets, and in some cases whether she wants two displays PLUS the Mac internal display or whether she'll be in Clamshell Mode (lid closed).

she would want ro use two displays, plus the Mac screen as well, so 3 screens total
what MacBook Pro would be h one to go for, she might be able to specify with her new work

Any MBP with the Mx Pro or Mx Max chip.

Not sure they would do that chip
Am I right in reading the 13 or 15 inch MacBook Air m3 chip supports two external displays?
Yes, but only without the built-in display. It can be built-in plus one external, or two external with the lid closed.
