Would it be difficult for Apple to release 2 screen sizes on the iPhone? It seems as is there are a large number of people on here that would prefer the 3.7"-4" screen, but I really do think there would be a market for a 4.7"-5" screen also. Is there anything, hardware/software speaking, that would keep Apple from doing this? If in fact it is a realistic possibility for them to do so, what do you think is keeping Apple from releasing 2 iPhones at once?

That's the thing. People on here. This forum is a very poor representation of the average iPhone user. I am not opposed to having two different screen sizes. As long as the screen doesn't get any smaller I'm good. But Apple isn't going to make different versions of the iPhone to appease the small percent of people like us who hang out in a forum.

Small percent? I guarantee you if Apple made a 4-4.3 inch screen iPhone, it would outsell the 3.5 inch model and by a good amount.

Don't think it will happen but it should, I'm really hoping for a bigger screen, as the larger on of the Samsung is really good.

Very few would choose a smaller screen when talking about only a slight size different. Also price would have to be at least $150 difference. Now if we were talking current size vs 5+ inches, then that's a differ story.

Women ?

If they released them side by side? No. The cheapest one would outsell the rest. I'd bet you, but it's not even worth debating since Apple certainly won't be doing it. I'm not hating on the idea- I myself would buy the larger screen version.

I'm not a developer so I don't know the difficulty they would face making apps to work on various screen sizes, but I think we would all agree that Apple is number one in the world in terms of the volume and quality of app and software developers. It seems lazy to say they couldn't handle multiple screen size because it would be too hard. We are talking about one of the greatest software companies in history here.

I never implied that developers could not handle it. When the iPhone resolution was increased for the iPhone 4, they made it exactly double that of the iPhone 3GS and before. I believe the decision to do so was partly due to making it easy for developers and easy for older apps to work on the new screen resolution.

If the rumours of the next iPhone is true, the screen will only be larger in one dimension. It also makes it easy for old apps to work without much modification by the developers. Newer apps that take advantage of the bigger screen dimension will require additional work by the developers and they will have to deal with the older iPhones and the new one.

Adding additional screen sizes would just require more work by the developers to ensure that their app appears properly and well on all screen sizes. The more variations of screen sizes you have, the more work this will require. I'm sure developers can handle it. Based on past history, I think Apple would rather not introduce so many variations of screen sizes.

It's funny how the discussion is now about larger screens.

Remember how just a couple of years ago the hot speculation was that Apple would bring out an iPhone Nano? :)

As for the argument about too many types:

Apple already makes three iPhone models, the 3GS, 4 and 4S. Aren't there also different radio models for China? In any case, making yet another is just a matter of setting up another factory line, something that's claimed to take almost no time in China due to gazillions of industrial engineers.

Non-sequitur: Personally I still want Apple to get into the smartwatch market and do it right.

And what is it with so many people on here thinking that women prefer small screens? Women are not these dainty little things with small hands. Yeah some women are tiny but so are some men. I regularly encounter women near or past 6 feet tall and no I don't work for the WNBA. They're not unicorns, guys. They come in all the same heights us men do.

To think that all women prefer a smaller screen for their dainty hands is kind of obsurd. Not to mention a lot of women carry their phones in a purse so the size of a screen is much less of an issue when you are not factoring in pocket space.

Many of the women I've talked to say that phone size is not a problem because many of them carry purses as you have mentioned. Also many men and women I've talked to don't have a problem with fitting a larger phone in their pockets as long as it's not as large as a 4.8"+ phone.

We should also all keep in mind that the majority of the top selling Android phones are 4" or larger when there are also smaller phones they can buy. That's saying a lot since the Android market share is very large and it's not only made up of only men. It seems that many do prefer a larger phone.

I don't see it outside the realm of possibility. They may do it with their iPad soon if rumors are correct.

I love the screen size of my iphone5, BUT I know there are many who really love the larger screens. I think Apple should release another screen size model, they would then have a pretty great lineup of devices with varying screen sizes.

iphone - 4"
iphone - 4.8"
ipad mini - 7.85"
ipad - 9.7"
macbook air - 11"
macbook air - 13"
macbook pro - 13"
macbook pro - 15"
macbook pro w/retina - 13"
macbook pro w/retina - 15"

(Yes I know the ipad mini and macbook pro 13" retina have not been announced, but just thought i'd add them in as they are 2 products that I believe will be out soon)
