I have searched around and can't get a straight answer. I had a dual display setup. One of the displays is a 2022 display and the other was an old 10 year old Dell display. I recently replaced the Dell display with a 2026 Studio Display. My Mac Studio M1 first connects to the 2026 studio display and then daisy chains to the 2022 display.

System preferences shows the 2022 as Display(1) and the 2026 Display(2). Safari seems to always select Display(1) for camera work.
I don't see a way to control this.

I don't see anything in Safari settings unless I am looking in the wrong place. When I do a video session I see a camera icon on both screens in the Safari menu bar but it says nothing making one of them the active camera.

Do I have to somehow make the 2026 monitor Display(1) - How would I do that? Swapping cables doesn't seem to work and the 2022 display does not seem to have a daisy chain option.

Help!

That is correct.

What feature of Safari uses cameras? What web site(s) are you trying to enable your cameras with?

This morning I was doing a video appointment with my doctor using Safari. The video does not jump to zoom or other such separate applications.

Yes I could do Chrome or use my iPad but I like Safari and also my dual monitor big screen setup.

Usually the web app will have a camera selection option in there somewhere -- it's not in Safari itself; it'll be in the video conference web app settings on the website itself. If it doesn't, then shame on the developer. Otherwise, I'm not sure one can disable the camera easily.

The thing is I want the camera but I want to select which monitor the camera is active on. The menu icon for the camera I saw in Safari does not have an activate/disable/choose monitor just portrait/landscape/… type of things.

In Safari it will always use the camera on Display 1

Been there done that:

Safari does not seem to have an option to set the default camera.

Have you tried setting the Studio Display 2026 as the default camera in the FaceTime app or Photo Booth app, and disabling Automatic Camera Selection?

As mentioned earlier this is about Safari and the camera for my friends Core Video sessions.

I could not find an option in Safari, that's why I asked if you had tried setting the default in one of the included Apple apps to see if that would make a difference. I have tried it now, and it does not.

I am thinking the problem is the web option provided by my medical group does not have a camera selection option and defaults incorrectly.
