Long time MBP user and we are finally getting rid of the windows desktop and getting an iMac.

My question is this....

When setting up multiple users... Will the mail, Messages and iCloud accounts switch over to the additional users credentials? Meaning, when I log in, I get all my mail in the mail app, texts and icloud messages and when my wife logs in, all of her info will show up within those apps? Seems as though this is how it should act, but not sure if iCloud is that advanced yet??

Yes, that's how it works. Each User account can be signed into different iCloud, email, iMessage, iTunes and App Store, etc. (or the same accounts, for that matter). Even if you use the same account(s) you will have to sign into them individually, after you setup the User account.

It's not whether iCloud is that advanced - the fundamental structure of the User account pre-dates iCloud - iCloud login is done at the User level, not at the System level - the point was (and still is) to allow each user to have a unique setup and separate data.

Most Apps are not user-specific - the Applications folder is at the system level, so that all users can access them equally.

The one complication is that by default, each User account will create its own iTunes Library, Photos Library, etc. You can set things up so those libraries are shared rather than separate, but that's a subject for another post.

awesome... Thanks very much for the informative post. I appreciate you taking the time to explain that. Answered my question and then some.
