Hi guys, is there an application for the Mac in which I can watch movies from regions 1 and 4, without changing the drive's region?
Would really appreciate it, thanks🙂

All new Macs have region locked drives that cannot be changed without a firmware update. Only a select few have had such an update. Look up you drive in System Profiler and see if its listed over at RPC1.org for a firmware update, otherwise you are out of luck.

I seriously doubt your drive will be able to be unlocked. Most of them are from 2006/2007.

Region locking is done on 3 levels. Software, OS and hardware. VLC ignores the software lock, RegionX ignores the OS level lock. Only an RPC1 drive can ignore the hardware lock.

Another option is to get an external optical drive. And set it to the different region.

Note, personally I have not done this but hear that it works okay. YMMV.

I did this with my netbook. I use a LiteOn external which is fairly straight-forward to make rpc1. VLC or MPlayer work fine with no complaints.
