I've managed to get Mupen64Plus running on my Macbook, and even connected my PS3 controller over bluetooth to use with Mupen.

Mupen seems to have an auto configuration for the PS3 controller, so the buttons appear to be mapped correctly.

But there is a problem, for some reason the controller is seen as being connected to port 2, so games like Mario Kart I can navigate the menus, but at character selection bit I can't go any further!

Any idea why the controller is showing up as controller 2?

How were you able to get Mario Kart running on your MacBook? Did you have to change any settings? Some of the games on Mupen64Plus that I got--notably Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, and Donkey Kong--are all lagging an extreme amount and flashing. I tried getting different roms but I always have the same issue and I'm thinking that might be because of my settings?

Mario Kart for me is especially bad. It freezes past sections of the game and I can barely see and it's always flashing. Of course, they're all pretty terrible, and I have trouble with the game when others don't seem to.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Sadly N64 emulation on OS X is lacking severely in comparison to Windows.

There is some hope on the horizon with regards to OpenEMU which is hopefully coming soon (although not guaranteed).

I've tried MANY ways and MANY nights trying to get some old N64 classics working on my Mac to no avail. In the end I got Parallels, Windows and Project 64. With the exception of my beloved Pilotwings 64 I got every N64 game up and running easily. I even got an N64 controller working over USB.
