What exactly is the Music app on my 4th Gen ATV? I have realized that I do not have to have my iTunes library connected (which is housed on my iMac and connected directly to my ATV via AirPort Extreme via ethernet) on my home network in order to play music on my ATV.

I can play my entire iTunes library that is housed on my iMac along with SOME (why not ALL I dont know because I am not sure of where any of this is coming from!) of the radio stations in iTunes plus anything in Apple Music. (I have a subscription of course)

In the past I had streamed FROM my iMac/iTunes library TO my Apple TV 4th Gen. I had never played around with the ATV and realized I could play my entire library PLUS SOME radio stations AND anything in Apple Music without use of my iMac..

Are the music files coming in via ethernet DIRECTLY to my Apple TV? My ATV is connected via HDMI to an NAD T 747 then out to my speakers. Is the ATV converting anything before it sends the signal along to the NAD?

The sound is excellent but I would like someone to explain to me the path of these files and at what point the DAC is made. Thank you for helping me understand this part of my system.

BUMP

Surely someone on this site knows the answer to this question. I cannot find this specific question addressed anywhere. It is obvious to me on reflection that the music is coming in via digital stream directly to my Apple TV 4th Gen via my ethernet cable from my modem. I am assuming only a pass through on the part of my AirPort Extreme then on to the ATV
I still do not know what (If any) manipulation the ATV is doing to the Digital audio files prior to sending them to my NAD T747 AV Receiver. Any of you computer whizzes or Engineers please advise. Thank you

You may have the iCloud Music Library checkbox ticked?

Ha yes indeed I do have iCloud Music Library checked! This helps me understand I am receiving the the files from iCloud. Thank you very much

I’ve had this issue for years. Regardless of what I do, some (if not, most) of my music reverts to DRM, when it was clearly mine under iTunes Match. Very frustrating. It never works out right.
