The only sign of Apple Music I see, with that toggle off, is in search where I see the option to search in Apple Music or my library which is fine. Previously anytime I opened the app I saw an Apple Music screen, I no longer do with the toggle off. So I’m happy. I personally have no need to see the search option of Apple Music as I’m not a subscriber, I will only be searching my library, but others may want to see search results in one or the other.
When I click on search on the bottom right corner of the music app, when I start typing a song or artist I want to find in my music library, it defaults and searches in APPLE MUSIC which I don’t even have or subscribe to. I manually have to click “Library” to search my local music library. Now, the bug is that for whatever reason, the search defaults to Apple Music and I have to manually click “Library” to search my local music library instead of Apple Music. There should be no mention of Apple Music at all in the search section of the Music app or in the music app AT ALL especially since I have “Show Apple Music” toggled off.

As soon as I tap on the search icon I get what’s shown below. My Library is already selected with the option to select Apple Music. So it works the way I would expect even though I have no need for the Apple Music option.

Close the Music App entirely from the multitasking page on your iphone. Open the Music app, Click Search on the bottom right and your search bar will default to search in Apple Music and NOT in your Library.

I replicated this 3 times in a row just now and can confirm this but has not been resolved in iOS 18.2. In other words, As long as you don’t close the Music app entirely from the multitasking section on the iPhone, the music app will NOT default to Apple Music in the search bar but the moment the music app is closed completely, it will revert back to search in Apple Music the next time you open the music app and you will have to manually click “Library” to search for music in your local library instead of Apple Music.

I only force quit an app when it’s not responding or glitching in some way. But yes, if you force quit, it will come back with the toggle on Apple Music, I just tap my library and it remains there forever. It stays where you last put it except for a restart of the device or a force quit of the app, which is rarely necessary. So I see no issue here.

It should not revert back to Apple Music and the search section shouldn’t include anything related to Apple Music just like it was on iOS 17.

Have you filed feedback? I’ve filed for both 18.2 and .3 now:

FB15642131 (Music app defaults to searching Apple Music even with “Show Apple Music” toggled off)

Please file and mention above. It is 100% a bug.

Nope. The service shouldn’t show as a search option when the “show Apple Music” toggle is off in Settings > Music.

Bug as above.

I did numerous times since the launch of iOS 18.

I'd recommend contacting support nowadays. Filing a feedback costs Apple nothing, since no one looks at them. Bothering support about it is the only way to get attention to an issue. It's a shame.

It’s totally not fine search defaults to Apple Music when Apple Music is turned off in Settings.
Exactly. Somebody at Apple needs to be fired for letting this “bug” slip through. Unless of course, this isn’t a bug and is intentional by Apple.

I have a really hard time believing this is simply a bug.

I agree it's not a bug. Non-susbscribers are being steered toward Apple Music.
In CarPlay, tapping the album name formerly brought up the album track list, and it worked for all tracks. In iOS18.2, it only works for purchased tracks, and takes you to Apple Music info for the artist.

Strange, I get results for music I do not own. Also I have Apple Music disabled. Why have the option to disable Apple Music if it does not have any influence on where Music.app searches for music.

It seems like it’s done purposely by Apple to get people to sign up for Apple Music. Not thanks Apple

It's just one more tap, but it annoys me as well that it defaults to the Apple Music tab when searching.

Just updated to iOS 18.2.1 and this “issue” of search defaulting to Apple Music is still there so this is definitely intentional by Apple. Unbelievable

It's not just "one more tap". Its hundreds of "one more" taps since updating to iOS 18.
How so?

Search-> Search Item -> Tap Library to search the iPhone library instead of Apple Music.

It's one tap.

Unless you are just referring to searching for things over time.

Absolutely. Not a bug. Not an oversight. It's a very intentional change. If you don't like their app, use a different app. Doppler, VLC, Anywhere, Offline Music Player, etc. Loads of options.

Seriously?
Yes, seriously. Unless you do nothing all day long except search your own music library...

It was an actual question out of curiosity. Everybody uses their phone differently and it's not that much of a hardship for ME to tap Library.
