I've almost finished my first game, an nice simple one which I'm not expecting to sell too many of, it was more of a learning exercise for Cocos2D.
One thing thats 'missing' is music. Its got sound effects, but no music.

Is this much of a problem? Pretty much all games I've seen have music, so if its left out would you feel the game is incomplete?

Just curious for peoples opinions really. I'm not sure I can be bothered to try to write some for this game (got a much better idea for game 2 that will need music).

Are there any sites with free in-game music that I could slip in?

There are a number of successful games that don't include music. For example: Trism. It really depends on the nature of the game itself.

Fact of the matter is that music in games has to be built in from day 1 really, so many people ignore this and ruin good games at the end by hacking music in.

You now have a tough decision of whether to not include music and risk being slated for it or hack in some music at the last minute and get slated for it, it will be obvious that the music was an afterthought if you do this though...

My advice would be to release it with no music and see how the users react. During this period get some decent music and sounds together and get creating an update just in case. Most people will play games on the iPhone in silent mode anyway...

Speaking as a consumer, I much prefer being able to listen to my own music I have on the phone while I'm playing games. Games which stop my music to play theirs annoy me a lot for this reason.

OK, thanks everyone. I've submitted it to the app store sans music...
