I'd like to be able to have more than one song per slide show. Is that possible in iPhoto 06? What about 08?

Sure is. The easy way is to make a Playlist of the songs you want to use in iTunes, then select that playlist from the media browser in iPhoto.

Problem there is you can't set a crossfade, so there's probably going to be few seconds of silence between the first and second song. How bad this is depends on the songs themselves (and how much silence is actually encoded as part of the track specifically).

The fairly-simple way to get a really professional sounding track is to take your songs into GarageBand and edit them together with a nice little crossfade then export them as a single track. Put that under your slideshow for a really nice soundtrack.

Great, thank you!

Is there anyway to matching timing in the song to a particular slide?

Nope. Not in iPhoto. You're option in that case is to use iMovie (06 -- not sure how v8 does it). Import the slides, then the music, then adjust individual slide durations to match up to the slides. It's considerably more work doing it this way.

What I have done is create a soundtrack with Garage Band and used that. Then you can edit songs and make nice transitions - you can also put in voice over or any other sound effects. Or as the other person said, use iMovie to create the slideshow.
