Music issue with iPhone 4S

My iPhone 4S will no longer play music through the USB cable attached to the radio. This started about 2 weeks ago. The phone had played music fine and then when I tried to skip a few songs the radio screen said read error. I turned off the radio and did a hard reset on the phone and it seemed to work fine. Several day later it did the same thing and I tried the same fix. This time it didn't work. So last night I tried taking my phone back to factory reset and reinstalling my information by an iCloud back up. I plugged my phone into the radio and it played the first few songs great and then I got a read error and could not get the iPhone to play through the radio after that. I am almost ready to take the phone back to the setting of being a new phone and starting over with wverything. Please help! Thank you!
