I just installed OS X 10.9 mavericks and when I open the finder, there is no favorites for movies, pictures, and music on the left toolbar. Is there something I need to enable for these tabs to show up on the left hand side?

yep no problem! Sorry i couldn't be more specific. I wasn't at my comp at the time and going by memory lol
I freaked out when I lost my photos - years and years of data. Well, my husband found it. He clicked on "Macintosh HD" (which we found in applications), then "users", then my name, and all the lost files came up. I then dragged my pictures and other files to my favorites on the finder menu.
Now I am going to back everything up immediately in case anything like this happens again.
