The first must-have Blu-ray disc to show off your HDTV is Disney/Pixar's Cars. I have it and playback on my Sony KDL-40EX500 TV and Sony BDP-S370 player is flat-out jaw-dropping with clarity so sharp you could see all the details of all the "cars" in the stands.

Anything Pixar -- Up was amazing.

I just got the 10th Anniversary edition of Fight Club...pretty awesome :)

Got Up and it looks and sounds extraordinary. It's nice that it includes a DVD copy as well. I popped in the Blu-ray and put the DVD in my 360 and quickly A/B'ed them against each other. Even though I'm in my mid-20s I'm <-> this close to buying the full Pixar collection on Blu-ray.

Fight Club is on my short list. I'm a little torn on whether or not to buy The Lord of the Rings set, as it doesn't include the full director's cut.

Aliens is by far my favorite film of all time. I've never seen it on DVD and the copy I watched growing up was a tape that my dad recorded off of HBO. It was grainy; the darker scenes were barely distinguishable; and the tape's audio would sometimes "warble" as old tape does--it was awesome. Dare I re-watch it in the pristine, crystal-clear quality of Blu-ray?

Planet Earth is outstanding on BluRay. I've watched it a few dozen times by now.

I'll vote again for Up. Amazing to watch.

Band of Brothers is good too.

I would hold off on the LOTR box set. Peter Jackson has said that the extended editions should be released by late 2011- early 2012. I know it's awhile away, but the extended editions are much better then the theatrical releases of the LOTR films.

And Alien is an awesome movie, Sigourney Weaver is one of my favorite actresses.

Ratatouille was my original gold standard for next gen hi def quality. I think most will agree that majority of Pixar films on Blu-ray are well worth the purchase. :D

Fixed that for you. :p

They’re just beautiful — particularly WALL-E.

Another cool one to watch is Transformers. A lot of people I talk to didn't like that movie though. I thought it was action packed and overall pretty good.

Good thread

I would say Conair and Casino Royale are must haves. They are my reference movies. But also the The Godfather Restoration which is amazing.
