Hiw good is the karaoke and singing on the iPhone?

I need to buy a new Apple TV for this feature but only want to if it’s good like they make it out on the ads?

Has Macrumors' code whisperer uncovered any new Apple TV IDs in the new update?
Profiles are useless if you have young kids and want to protect them from viewing adult content. Profiles mean nothing on the appletv. The entire device is either open to all content, or locked down to specific ratings. So either my kids can't watch PG-13/R content, or I'm stuck watching G/PG content. How does this make sense? The concept of profiles works on MacOS and iOS, yet somehow Apple after all of these years can't get this right on AppleTV.

If I set up restrictions, anyone can easily simply just change profiles, and the restrictions are still there. Or, no restrictions and same thing - my kids can easily change profiles and view any adult content they find. This is just killing me Apple...
I'm surprised they don't have a simple optional PIN requirement to access the "adult" profiles, but then again none of the streaming services I have used lately support that when choosing profiles through their own apps, either. Maybe you could try to see if your TV still supports blocking based on rating (In the US it was a requirement for a while at least), and set up a PIN for anything over PG, and then assuming the Apple TV passes that properly, your kids will get blocked once they actually try to start a stream?

Apple has bombed the entire “Family,” setup within their ecosystem. Kids can’t share their AirTags with their parents, shared airplay in the car, sorry kid you’re not 13 can’t happen. And lastly the profiles on ATV are a complete joke. The profiles within the apps stronger suited for keeping kids away from what they shouldn’t see.

I didn’t mind the transparency update until I started noticing preview pictures that are mostly white looking slightly blown out, not ideal. After disabling transparency that issue disappeared.

Be on Home Screen. Double tap Home button on remote (to open app switcher). Notice the main bar of apps (the ones encircled by the Liquid Glass border) turns completely black in the app switcher screen.

How nobody caught this is beyond me. Complete lack of attention to detail.
I think the tvOS interface was created by people who don’t use the device.

agree, this is a genuine usability issue.

IMO Apple should have some sort of authentication, either a PIN code or - preferably - the ability to confirm it's really you on your phone or watch to enter an adult account in a family scenario.

do you have any more specific criticisms?

I've tried Samsung and Sony TVs with Android TV and I own an OLED LG TV running WebOS.

The AppleTV interface is by far the best looking and most intuitive of the lot.

It's not perfect, but when my father, wife and kids instantly and intuitively know how to navigate it, it's not nothing.

Every year everybody complains about something. This year is liquid glass.
I myself really like the Liquid Glass look. But I must be the only one.

In tvOS 26, I can't add users (family) from my Apple One account. Any time I try, the process just hangs and I have to reboot the Apple TV. This combined with the audio sync issue (fixed in 26.0.1) makes the new OS debut a dumpster fire.

I mean, c'mon Apple! You play with audio / video code and don't test against Netflix, the biggest streaming app on your platform?!?

Roku's interface is far and above easier than Apple's. Kids and Wife prefer it, and my parents wanted Roku as well when I helped them pick out a new TV.

Our Apple TV is in the workout room and is relegated to doing Glo, Apple Fitness+, and being a HomeKit hub.

Do you still have an Apple ID to have a profile, like Apple TV+? Stupid idea...just make it like Netflix, and every other streaming service.

I am still on TVOS 17, they took away features I love in 17 so no new Apple TV for me. Love the liquid glass part if only apple would stop taking away good features from old OS then they would have a better adoption rate.

The one new feature I *thought* was coming was full audio passthrough... at least it was in betas. Is it not in the full release? I realize it might need specific app support as it used some new methods but I would love some of Bluray and UHD rips in Plex to passthrough full TrueHD and DTS-HD audio to my receiver.

Completely agree. AirTags restriction is bizarre. And the CarPlay one caused serious disappointment when my daughter realised it was another arbitrary restriction. I mean, why would there be a restriction on a family member of any age from this kind of thing?

While the profiles on the TV are still pretty useless, at least the new screen forcing selecting a profile generally means that each member of our family selects their profile rather than it being hidden away. Apple really needs to try and push app developers to adopt whatever API is provided for linking app logins to the profile.
