We have 2 Homepod Minis that are paired, one in the living room and one near the door of the kitchen. Sometimes, when we're in the kitchen, we just want the kitchen Homepod to play and to leave the living room off. Is there a way to do that?

Yes - don't make them a "Stereo Pair"

When you make them a stereo pair, you're asking them to behave as a single unit with one HomePod playing the left channel, and the other the right channel. That works well if they're in the same room. If they are in separate rooms, they shouldn't be paired - run them independently ("Mono") and you'll have independent control over each HomePod volume etc.

I guess. That's not really answering my question. We have a open house style and having them paired across the two rooms works fine generally, so I wasn't asking for advice in that regard.

I was just wondering if the obvious feature of being able to disable one of a paired set of Homepods was possible, but as usual with Apple products, it's all or nothing with this kind of feature. Was just hoping I was missing something. Oh well.

If you're talking about fade control, no that's not currently possible with stereo pairs. Can I ask why you don't just run each HomePod standalone, and airplay to them both? They would be all synced up still, but then you can turn one off or make it a lower volume if you wanted to....

That's a possibility. Thanks. 'll look into that. I'm surprised the ability to change volumes independently doesn't exist for paired Homepods though. That really does seem like a no-brainer feature.

You could try asking Siri to turn down the volume, or play a song on a specific HomePod. but I don’t know, I don’t have a HomePod :( hopefully it works.
