I thought the pvd coating prevented it on the 12 pro.If it helps, it's an issue of the stainless steel itself. Rarely people have been reporting discoloration since the iPhone X was released. You might search the forum for that word and find what people have done to prevent it, as I believe there's no fix, besides trying to polish it carefully (without removing the color).
One guy swears that it works, another said it didn't do anything.
So is it normal wear and tear?If it helps, it's an issue of the stainless steel itself. Rarely people have been reporting discoloration since the iPhone X was released. I don't think that's normal wear and tear. It shouldn't do that.So is it normal wear and tear?
Is any one else having this issue with their mute switch. Tiny silver shiny speck under coating. Under light they stand out and when not under light surface looks perfectly fine.
Sure it can be replaced but most of the phone has to be disassembled to access the switch and harness. Hardly worth it IMOSorry to revive an old thread but my iPhone 12 just had a similar issue. Discoloration appeared on the mute switch, so I used a minor amount of rubbing alcohol and some elbow grease with a cotton swab to get it out. Some was still stuck in there so I got out a sewing needle to get the rest. It took the orange-colored indicator — as someone here had warned — almost completely off.
Consider this a warning to all who may read it (and also a shot-in-the-dark question: any chance something like that can be replaced?!). Guess I saw this thread too late.
