.mvk to iTunes

Hey guys!
I have a few .mkv 720p video files that I would very much like to get over to Itunes and then my Ipad, but so far my search has yielded nothing 🙁
I was wondering if anyone had a link for a piece of software or whatever i would need to get this done.

mp4 tools or handbrake. Both free

If the video contained within the file is H.264 (and if it has a compatible sound track) then Subler can losslessly remux it to .m4v, which iTunes will accept.

My best experience has been with Smart converter pro from the mac app store.
