What program/app on your MAC (running El Capitan) gives you the most value? Do you have any favourite that stands out from the rest?

For me it's Little Snitch without any doubt. Why? It allows me to see and control what servers different apps/progs connect to. Nowadays apps connect all over the place, way beyond what is needed for functioning; for marketing, ads and for data collection. To be able to shut that down is very valubale to me.

Go to any random web-page and most of them will connect to 5-10-15 or even more other servers to monetise your ip.

Would be interesting to hear what other MAC users consider essential for their experience. /Cheers.

*edit: Put in El Capitan for emphasis.

My most need program is VMWare Fusion Tech Preview. It allows me to run other local OSs and also allows me to do basic administration on my ESXi testing server. This latest version of Fusion allows you to create remote VMs which is pretty massive.

I've never understood the appeal of Little Snitch. I find it more annoying than useful.

Are you guys running software "from other sources" and don't want them phoning home?

If you read the OP you would have the answer to you question there :)

Chill out mate, have a beer. :p

a lot of free non-appstore tools have suspicious connections. i simply don't want them to send any data from my system to servers I don't know.
