Windows MW3 install on multiple computers?

A friend of mine is going to give me his copy of MW3 for the PC, and I want to know if it works multiple times, since he's already used it. Is this possible?

As far as I know that game requires Steam and uses VAC anti-cheat tech so if he already played the game it would be tied to his Steam account. Therefore you would not be able to use it, no. The install key has already been consumed when he installed it.

Mechwarrior 3?!? I've installed my copy a few times without issue. I think at one point it was available for free online, but that's probably changed with that Kickstarter game.
