um yeaaahhh ... you need to get with the whole american way. minor tedious task = find an app and support the economy buy buying a download ;-)

That being said, when I did it itunes/qtpro.

I think the procedure was

Find the song in the library
Export to mp3
open it qtpro
identify section and save (as an mp3)
rename that extension to m4r on the clip
double click and itunes would import as an mp4

I will try your method later as well.

(and still try the drag and drop that I forgot I bought ;-) )

What if we don't have QT pro? The license for that is 30 bucks, twice what iToner costs.

A kind-of-easy way to create ringtones if you don't want to buy iToner or iLife:

1. Select the song you want to use as a ringtone in iTunes.
2. Right-click it and click Get Info, then Options.
3. Set the start and stop times to the part of the song you want to use. Decimals work for seconds if you want to be more precise.
4. With the song still selected, click Advanced in the menu bar, then Create AAC Version. If you've changed your import file type, you need to set it back to AAC (iTunes Preferences > General > Import Settings).
5. Drag and drop the new, shorter song (of the same name) onto your desktop, then remove it from your iTunes Library without deleting the actual file.
6. Change the file's extension from m4a to m4r and drag it back into iTunes.
7. Go back into the original song's options and uncheck the start/stop times, so it's not shortened anymore.

Seems like a lot of work, but it only takes a minute if you've done it before.

So.... after spending $16 on beejive 2? months ago. They want us to spend another $16 for those new features?

If you already bought the oldver verson, you can upgrade to the new verson for free. thats the same with all the apps

I'm not trying to mock you or be disrespectful to the app writers, but who would pay 15$$ to a freekin chat program? :S Especially when there are other alternatives for free...

None of them can do what bejive can do. bejive is the best im mobile app out there. Supports a good amount of services, fells like an apple app, and is very customizable.

I agree its a bit expensive, but when you factor in everything you get, its well worth the price.

Better to get this, then spend the money downloading 5 or 10 crappy apps that dont do a thing expect waste space on the app store server

Beejive IM is by far the best IMing app and is well worth the price.

Agreed

Beejive is so expensive because it actually works. They can charge that much because the app is actually that good. MobileChat doesn't work.

I agree, It does the job well, better then any other im app. Fells almost like a computer app then a mobile app at times. I beleive its one of the best apps in the app store. Just doesnt have high ratings because people complain that the price is to high....

You can't get anything in life for free guys....

It's not even that much money. We've had it for a few months now. I use it every single day while on the train home. Surely it has paid for itself by now :)

Besides, I don't mind supporting the developers on this one. It really is a fantastic app, and I welcome this a lot after experimenting for months on palringo/mobile chat. I'm way more angry about blowing $3 on MC than $16 on Beejive.

Also, Beejive has been updated several times, and the updates have actually worked. Improved stability, more features, all as promised originally.

Not to mention "it uses your existing data plan" meaning no real need to buy a texting service on top of the existing $70 you pay for then damn thing

...wait is beejive 2 $15 to upgrade

No....

if you already bought it before, and its still on your iphone/ipod touch, then the upgrade is free.

This is the same with any app. If you paied for an app, you get a free upgrade...

15 bucks to make ringtones? People no!!!!!!! You can make ringtones in itunes so easily, just go to the song, right click, go to get info, the go to where you can select the start and stop time of a song, pick your selection, make sure its less than 30 secs, then click ok, right click the song and click create aac, it will make the clip its own song above that song, then click and drag the song to the desktop, delete it from the library, the change the songs file type to m4r, then double click, it will add it to your ringtone group, and sync your iphone!

I just made Teenage mutant Ninja turtles for my iphone last night, to easy. And its FREE!

Nice.. thank you!

To me Keynote Remote was the best piece of news in the Philnote.
I'm soooo looking forward to presenting with this. It is just what I needed.

Maybe Apples reason for pricing this app at a seemingly silly $0.99 is that they want more people to try using their credit card instead of just dl'ing free apps all the time. This could lure a lot of people into making their first actual purchase - making them lose their "iTunes Credit Card Virginity".

Less Toys...More Real Apps

All of these things are more or less just toys. I want to know when someone is going to come out with a turn-by-turn GPS app so that the iPhone GPS will actually be useful. What about recording videos? What about MMS? Are these all things that Apple is planning to release in June? And also, where is Skype?

i don't understand the need for it when you have garageband that can do the same thing for free

I don't have a version of garageband that can do the same thing for free. I would have to buy the new version of iLife for this one function. I don't use iPhoto, iMovie, or Garageband. Being able to just buy this one function for 15 bucks is great news for me.

I don't understand the need for either when you can do this in iTunes for free.

Have you guys run into the WebIS PocketInformant booth (Booth 1438) yet? They make one of the best PIM apps for Windows Mobile and are releasing a version for iPhone soon.

iToner was released well over a year ago before the ability to make ringtones with garageband or in iTunes. In fact, I think iToner was released before Apple even allowed ringtones through the iTunes store. Having purchased iToner way back then, I really feel it is a great tool for managing ringtones and this 2.0 update is well overdue. For anyone that has tons of contacts and wants a different tone for all of them, I find iToner to be the best and most convenient way to add and remove ringtones. It has a really nice interface and is easy to use. If you don't have garageband or simply don't want to go the iTunes route, the $15 is probably worth it for you. The 40 included ringtones aren't too bad either.

Works great for Canadian Rogers iPhones too. Only caveat I found is the song title has to be short. Not sure exactly how many characters are allowed, but unless I shortened (for example) Green Day's "American Idiot" or U2's "Beautiful Day" they wouldn't show up in the Custom Ringtone list on my phone.

Thanks for a great tip!!

re the keynote remote, is the only advantage of this over the white apple remote that you can see the upcoming slide and your notes? Meh, it would be kind of awkward holding such a big phone as a clicker. iPhone nano, anyone?

I tried iToner2 and all it did was crash on me. Never got one ringtone to work.

Gimmicks

I am sorry the Keynote does not cut it for me. Why am I not able to run Keynote presentations directly from my iphone to a projector. If the iphone is the platform of the future (which it is) we should be way beyond gimmicks like remotes.

Because some of use have real full time jobs. After spending all that time at work, the last thing I want to do is mess around with something that can be accomplished more quickly with some relatively inexpensive software. It costs less than a medium pizza delivered so I don't see what you are whining about.

I couldn't agree more. We need more useful edgy applications instead of the same old stuff. How about a simple file transfer app that isn't buggy and crash all the time. (i use file magnet to transfer pdf, doc, xls files to/from my phone) or an app that allows multiple types of media files to be played on the iphone instead of having to convert everything to mp4 or something. Instead, we have keynote presentation for the iphone which is lame. Next time I have a meeting, I'll huddle everyone around my phone and have someone swipe left for me when I need to change slides. When the presentation is done, I'll accidentally open up ifart to liven things up and finish with the zippo lighter application while my phone plays "freebird"
The iphone is becoming gimmicky instead of utilizing it's full potential.
