Trying to figure out what it is, actually. I use iMovie primarily for editing but have used Premiere Elements in the past. No other movie editing software. I have an MXF file that takes up 15 GB. What's in it, how can I make it smaller and what would happen if I deleted it?

No specific video cams. I take a lot of photos, and also have videos recorded with several cameras, including a Canon 7D, a Sony a6000 and several other small cameras. I also have edited a number of iPhone videos using iMovie. There is only one MXF file on my iMac.

try playing it with vlc. It may play imperfectly, or without sound, but you should be able to figure out whether it's worth keeping.
About Pro Video Formats and MXF

it's a pro format associated with avid, and pro video cameras like the canon c300 and sony fs5.

Handbrake is a free video format utility, which can convert mxf to mp4. You'll also need to install vlc (mentioned above, also free).

That did it. I had VLC. It's a long video interview that I no longer need. Thanks so much.
