So I had it for a total of maybe 20 hours. Was just walking around target Saturday when all the sudden my left pocket got scalding hot. Took it out and it was off, and the side with the battery was almost so hot I couldn't touch it. It proceeded to stay that hot for 2 hours before cooling down. No soft reset would work, MacBook wouldn't recognize it. Plugged it in for a few hours with nothing. It's bricked. Guess its back to the iPhone X until the 12 is released next year. Anyone else had this happen?

Called apple support. They didnt seem that concerned about the whole thing. Said they would email me a fedex label to return it. Hopefully this doesn't turn into another Note exploding battery situation. If I had left that thing in my pocket any longer I would have gotten 1st degree burns, no question.

Honestly it felt like more of an S upgrade than a whole new phone compared to my X anyways. And I hated the fact that it was thicker and heavier. Hope the iPhone 12/5G brings the heat next year (pun intended)

2012 - 2018: “Gaaaawd iPhone battery is terrible! Why can’t Apple give up the thin and light thing for some extra battery life?!”

2019: “Ugggghhhh these phones are so heavy! My tennis elbow is flaring up from just holding that extra few grams! Gawd Apple! What were you thinking?!”

The phone was off and the battery managed to remain hot for 2 hours? Sounds odd
Correct. It most definitely shorted out or something along those lines. And its not just a screen issue bc it won't connect to my watch or accept calls. Something went horribly wrong hardware wise

This is so weird because mine heated up QUICK and a lot when “preparing update” for iOS 13.1 beta 4 today. It was almost too hot to touch as well. My iPhone X never did that, even with preparing update while using when plugged in. My 11 Pro wasn’t plugged in and wasn’t using it. It was so bad I had to turn on the a/c in my car and hold the phone against it to cool it down. I was concerned it was going to get damaged.

Keeping an eye on this because there was an hour or so today that the phone felt VERY hot.....but it cooled down so I didn't think about it again until this post....

I heard in Iceland they were saving on heating by turning off heat when using iPhone in the house...total money saver
