I'm not sure if I have a bad unit or what, but I'm not even getting close to some of on screen time that others are getting. So I unplugged at around 6:30 a.m. this morning, and after streaming a podcast for about two hours, I was already down to 83%. Now around 9:00 p.m., I'm down to 17% with 4h of screen time. Is this normal? Is something wrong?

Its basically 2 hours commute streaming a podcast -> Random safari and bacon reader (reddit) browsing throughout the day on WiFi -> 2 hours commuting home streaming a podcast.

Thanks!

Low signal maybe? I had that issue with my 6S Plus at a previous job where I got really bad reception and it would just drain really fast.

Sounds like a lot of usage. Are you in weak cell area commuting?

I mean I pass through a bunch of different towns, so maybe its trying to connect to multiple towers. I'm wondering if I should just not stream on the commute. Is there any way to monitor this besides looking at the bars? Because I seem to hover around 3 most of the time. But I also notice substantial draining when on WiFi at work.

Something I. The background running maybe? Did you set it up as new or from a back up?

I have most of the background refresh off. Also I set it up as new (usually do this with all my phones).

The issue is some rogue apps especially Facebook and whatsapp/Facebook messenger.

I’ve checked my battery life and see even when i disable background and notifications it’s still hanging on. I know ios13 trying to prevent rogue usage but I think it’s still draining some battery even with no use cause the battery meter says its used 12% when I barely touch it.

Check what apps are using the most battery in the battery section.

Mainly Safari at 43%, BaconReader at 20% and podcasts at 10%.

Also I just played What The Golf and my phone was getting a bit warm. Not sure if that's normal too.

Also, if it helps, posted my battery stats.

How many battery cycles. Give it a few. My 11P is on cycle 1 and impressing me. Off charger at 6:30. Right at 6 hours of on-screen, mainly web and basic apps. No games. Few videos. Few calls and normal texting. It’s 10:15 and I have 26% remaining. Did you update to 13.1? If you haven’t.. I would.

Do you have iCloud Photos enabled and a large Photo Library?

I find that it takes 2 weeks before I start getting “normal” battery usage.

How long have you had the phone? First few days the phone will be doing a lot of background task indexing photos and things

i am also observing variable screen time on my iPhone 11 pro max in first week of usage,
Mostly 10 hrs screen-time from battery 100% to 5% and today it has been only 4 hrs screen-time from 100% to 50% which is equivalent to 8 hrs total screen time.
Is it normal, i also observed whatsapp background activity consuming 30% battery, i have disabled background activity for almost all apps and also disabled location privacy setting. Lets see how it goes in next few days.
