You're kidding me, right? The display on my cousin's 12" iBook is complete crap. The viewing angle at full brightness is like... 5 degrees. And it has a dead pixel.

I thought the 12" iBooks were known for having really crappy LCDs.

I don't think he's kidding. The LCD on mine is not the brightest in the world when not plugged in, but it is clear and sharp, with no dead pixels. It certainly has more than a 5 degree viewing angle, and I have not seen anyone except you complain about their poor reputation.

Mine is 2 months old. I love it-- the combination of portability, battery life, wireless reception and price are wonderful.

Woops, I'm late to the party... but congrats dmw! That's a fantastic machine, I should know, I've got one, too. ;)

And Lau, you know you need it. The better battery life, wi-fi reception, durability, and the fact that it matches iPods and iMacs better. What more could ya ask for? :p I went from your PB to this... I think it almost feels snappier.

No, it does not even mount on the desktop. :(

Pft, open image capture.

My Kodak hoodliedoo doesn't mount anywhere, but still shows up in imagecapture and iPhoto.

Also, try jiggling the wire.. ;) hehe

Thanks katie for the advice (I should have just asked the pro to begin with :) ), I will try it tonight when I get back home. Hopefully it works.

No I am not kidding.
The iBook G4's display is indeed very clear & sharp.

The viewing angle is also much more than 5 degrees.

Don't say that! I might end up doing it!

Or is this a cunning ruse so I then have the same computer as you, and therefore when I made a sleeve for mine, it would be easy to make on for yours too? I see, now I get it....;)

dmw007 - that's very odd about your camera. Hope Image Capture does the job.

Thasssss right. I'm a pro.

(aahahaha. No.)

and if all else fails, get a $3 card reader! It'll mount as a drive. Drag into iPhoto and BAM! Done.

Maybe your digital james bond spycamera isn't supposed to play well with iPhoto.. it'd be too easy for the uh.. guys who want to off James Bond.

Congrats.

Got one as well. Very happy with it. Got it instead of a 15" PB, and I'm glad I did. Saving the extra money for a Quad.

My display on the 12" iBook is fantastic. Just check your brightness setting! I've had mine get turned down somehow, so check it evey now and then.

Neither iPhoto or Image Capture worked. :(
Guess that I will have to go and buy a Memory Card Reader at Staples- so no pics guys & gals, sorry. :(

Why MI-6 could not give me a camera that works
with iPhoto I will never know.
Heck, even my laser-wristwatch syncs with my Mac. ;) :)

Late to this thread but... SWEET DUDE! I got mine ... hmmm... maybe 3 months ago. Wow. 3 Months I've had this nice machine. Welcome to 'da party!

:p ;) :D

i have had my ibook for 17 mos.. get more ram :p 768 allows tiger to run great

I am tossing the idea of throwing another 512MB of RAM into my iBook G4 (bringing the total up to 1GB). I would probably buy a 512MB dimm from crucial.com for about $60.

Well ok, you convinced me man, ill no more make the question powerbook12" or ibook12".

Ill get the ibook 12" next week. And with the rest of the money Ill get the bluetooth apple keyboard, and maybe an ipod nano :)

One question, how is the display in the night ? Im planning to use it in my bed before going to sleep.... ...:D

I just now ordered a new refurb 12" iBook 1.33GHz/ 512 MB for my daughter
for $799. I think that's a very reasonable price for a great little machine.
She'll be set for college this fall.

iBook - best apple product imo,

i don't want to turn this into a love in. but the iBook is a fantastic product. i'm sure a PB or a top of the range PC laptop can open safari a millisecond or 2 quicker. but frankly, i don't care because unless you use the machine by the stopwatch, you won't know the difference.

it's very portable, very reliable, very easy to use and it's a bargain!

iBooks are great. I have had PowerBooks in the past that gave me trouble but the two iBooks I owned were great machines. I have an iMac G5 on the way and I think in the spring I am going to add an iBook to the lineup. Great machine!

I have had a 12" iBook for the last 4 years now and am so addicted with it. Just recently upgraded from the G3 to the G4 as well and I know the exact feeling of opening up a new box and drooling with that new 'Apple iBook smell'. Congratulations on purchasing a QUALITY worthwhile laptop, may the battery have many happy drainings!

I was looking under my bed the other day for something, and I found my iBook's box, and opened and it still had *that* smell!

OK, that sounds kinda sad :p
