Not to mention that apple's pretty plastic casing of manuals is a complete waste of raw materials. If all computers were made like this, then there won't be any raw materials left.....

you ppl must be on acid. You are all chubby over a box a computer came in.

"PC users keep their boxes only so they can return the system if need be."

Uhh, I have my ipod box and stuff still in case it breaks I can return it. And if you are crying over the ipod box you better see a shrink.

Geez, you all put the box on the mantel and let everyone ohh and ahh over it like its a piece of artwork??

I keep boxes of ANYTHING I buy for a while to make sure there is no need for return. Alot of placed require original packaging to return the product, its just smart to keep everything until you are sure you dont have to return it.

I still got the box my TiBook came in. Boy was that a happy day. Stayed home, and was practically running out to meet the fed ex guy, then played with it all day. It was hard to not take the next day off too.:D

yees, now when you buy a brand new Macintosh, you get a free complimentary BOX with styrafoam!! hours of fun will follow while you take your new box with you to school, on trips, and around the house! buy a new BOX, and, umm, a mac, today!

I remember the Apple][e's later boxes had the same cool printing on the outside. I don't remember that the styrene was all that cool looking. The first serial mouse and the Super Serial card were pretty humdrum also.

I

It is a piece of artwork...Relax chief and be glad the company you invested your money in cares enough to make even something as dorky as packaging an artform. We're just relishing in the moment.

I guess the iBook boxing changed recently -- when I got my iBook/600 (October 2001 model) the box was pretty boring.

However, my iPod (20 gig) box blew me away. I was psyched to have an iPod, but the box still impresses me to this day. I'm one of the many who kept the box because it was so great.

Based on what everyone's saying, it seems like almost all Apple products are wrapped like the iPod was. This makes me want a new computer even more...

the packaging must be getting better. when i got my TiBook (April 2002) it looked standard to me. it was just sitting inbetween those two pieces of styorfoam, and the manuals on the top that were a perfect fit with the shape in the foam. those things were really hard to get out, you had to bend up all the pages to get the things out.

hopefully i'll see some new and improved packaging when the new 15" finally comes. :D

also, it's in Apple's best interest to have strong, secure packaging. that means that the products would be more secure in transport, thus leading to less returns due to damage.

i would be interested to see some photos of the 12" PB though. :)

Even the PowerBook 150 was packed like that, with the manuals first, then the machine at the bottom.
If anyone needs to see a shrink, it would be me. I love the way the iBooks smell. Both iBooks I bought were new and have that new machine smell. I think it's the plastic that they're made from. My 500Mhz still has the smell after 2 years of use. While I don't pop a chubby from keeping the boxes or sniffing my Macs, I still think it's cool to hold onto everything.
I like the new Apple logos on the side of the boxes- the aqua Apple.

Can I take this one step further into depravity and rave about the bags from the Apple stores?

They are sweet! High gloss, aqua logo, heavyweight paperstock, thick rope handles...mmmm!

;-)

Folks, if you're into packaging, DO NOT buy an Apple DVI-to-ADC-adapter. That box is really disappointing!

I confess I also love the smell of my TiBook in the morning...

I find it amazing as well, i've kept mine for my iBook and iPod. PC packaging is not a good, its done so its just enough but with Apple everything is layered, you get the manuals first (hint RTFM first!) then the wonderful machine itself.
I found the iPod packaging to be rather wastefull. Felt like they were trying to compensate for something...

Not that I really care, it is the product that matters (book... cover... analogy).
